Painted Inset Family Kitchen

A representative project in the classic painted-inset tradition: a smooth, furniture-grade painted perimeter on maple, warmed by a stained island.

Painted Inset Family Kitchen — representative custom cabinetry by Alderwood Cabinets

A representative capability piece — it illustrates the materials, construction, and design approach we bring to this kind of project, not a photograph of a specific past client’s home.

The concept

Inset doors sit flush within the face frame like fine furniture — the most tailored of the door styles. A painted perimeter keeps the room bright and clean, while a stained island adds warmth and a focal point.

How we build it

Painted cabinetry is built on maple with MDF center panels, which paint dead-flat and stay stable through Idaho’s dry seasons — reducing the seam movement that painted wood can otherwise show. Inset construction demands tight, consistent gaps, so the stock is acclimated and the doors are fitted precisely.

Details that matter

Concealed soft-close hinges and full-extension slides keep the cabinetry feeling tight for the long run. A full-height pantry and deep drawers handle the storage a busy family kitchen actually needs.

Key Materials
